ESD standards
There are several American and European standards that provide the guidelines and requirements for ESD protection program in electronic manufacturing, such as:
• ANSI/ESD S20.20: This is the American national standard for the development of an ESD control program, published by the ESD Association. It specifies the minimum requirements and procedures for the design, establishment, implementation, and maintenance of an ESD control program, and covers the technical and administrative aspects of ESD protection.
• IEC 61340: This is the international standard for the protection of electronic devices from electrostatic phenomena, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission. It consists of several parts, each addressing a specific aspect of ESD protection, such as general requirements, measurement methods, packaging and materials, personnel safety, and system design and use.
• EN 61340: This is the European standard for the protection of electronic devices from electrostatic phenomena, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization. It is based on the IEC 61340 standard, but with some modifications and additions to suit the European context and regulations.
