Exdron Laminarflow hoods

Exdron offers a full service for custom made laminar flow hoods, from design and installation to testing and certification. We have over 20 years of experience in manufacturing laminar flow hoods, validation and certification, using the world’s top of the line measurement equipment and the newest and most updated methodology.

All our Laminar flow hoods are made from 100% anodized aluminum construction, and HPL, making it suitable to be used also inside a Cleanroom as a mini environment.

Laminar flow hoods are enclosed workstations that create a clean and particle-free environment by maintaining a constant, unidirectional flow of HEPA-filtered air over the work area. These hoods are essential for various applications that require aseptic conditions, such as cell culture, pharmaceutical compounding, or electronic assembly.

Depending on the direction of the air flow, laminar flow hoods can be classified into two types: vertical and horizontal.
Vertical laminar flow hoods have the air flow from the top of the cabinet to the work surface.
Horizontal laminar flow hoods have the air flow parallel to the work surface.
Both types of hoods provide protection to the product, but not to the user or the environment.

Laminar flow hoods are subject to this standards and tests to ensure their proper functioning and performance:
ISO 14644: This standard defines the classification of air cleanliness in cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, and it provides the methods and procedures for testing and monitoring the air quality. This standard also specifies the acceptable levels of particles contaminants in different classes of air cleanliness.

These tests are needed to certify a laminar flow hood according to this standard are:
• Airflow velocity test: This test measures the speed of the air flow at different points of the hood, and it ensures that the air flow is uniform and within the specified range.
• HEPA filter leak test: This test checks the integrity of the HEPA filter by introducing a challenge aerosol upstream of the filter and detecting any leakage downstream of the filter. The leakage rate should not exceed 0.01% of the upstream concentration.
• Non-viable particle count test: This test counts the number and size of particles in the air flow using a particle counter, and it verifies that the particle concentration is below the limit for the desired class of air cleanliness.
• Smoke pattern test: This test visualizes the air flow patterns and turbulence inside and outside the hood using a smoke generator, and it confirms that the air flow is laminar and free of eddies or reverse flows.

If the laminar flow hood has an ionization instrument inside, we can also test, measure and calibrate its effectiveness by using an ion meter and a static meter. These instruments measure the ion balance and the static charge of the air flow, and they ensure that the ionization system is working properly and reducing the electrostatic attraction of particles.

Exdron’s team of experts can conduct all these tests and more for your laminar flow hoods, and provide you with a detailed report and a certificate of compliance. We can also advise you on how to improve your laminar flow hood’s performance and efficiency, and how to maintain it properly.
